AT scanning and editing negs

My theme was graffiti, cause I thought it would capture a lot of different colors. I started realizing there isnt very much good graffiti, a lot of just spray painted swear words and junk. I did find some good stuff, but not all the images fell in that category. The first image I just thought was cool so I thought I'd shoot it. Thought it would look pretty sweet in color film. I enjoyed scanning and processing my negatives on the computer.

Movie Week at PV.

Day one: Pecker.
I didn't particularly like this movie as a movie. I thought the plot was unrealistic and the comedic effect they were going for wasn't funny. I did however like the style of photography Pecker possessed. His ability to walk through his well known neighborhood and capture individuals and his surroundings came across easy and natural. He was referred to as a modern day Diane Arbis which was probably pretty close to what he was. He took pictures of anything and everything saying everything was art.

Day two: Born into Brothels.
I really enjoyed this movie. This is the type of photography I would like to pursue. I was really inspired by her desire to help these children and dedication to teaching them photography. I really liked that she used their photographs to show the world their lives, not so much her own. I'm sure she has many photos of her own but they focused on the children's work which is what it was about. Some of them were really talented and they captured life in a wonderful and playful way. I'm really excited her organization is still up and running trying to get other children out of the brothels. I want to look into it more and see what I can, or possibly us as a school.

Day three: Oh Brother, Where art Thou?
This movie I also really enjoyed. It was humorous and entertaining to watch. George did an amazing job. The brief movie we watched before made it that much better. It was neat to see how they made this film into a masterpiece. Once seeing that I noticed so much more in the color and mood of the film. I liked how they said they filmed the movie with no filters, or alterations during filming but did all the effects after digitally.

Dt non school related post!

Well besides sleeping in, going out, staying up late and procrastinating homework I did...
Several photo shoots! For fun, not even for school!
First being my friends niece baby Adelaine...

The second being my friends Judy, Dave and their kids Cole and Keah.

Other highlights were seeing friends who were home from Vancouver, Toronto, and South Korea. Many Lunches, breakfasts and supper were shared. One night my friend that is teaching english in South Korea made us a Korean bbq. It was amazing!

Also over the break was my friend Ashley and I's event; "Clothe the City". Its an event we've had for four years now where we collect coats and other winter apparel and give it to people who don't have the proper winter clothing. It went really well and we gave away over 200 coats! Many people came out to help and it was a really fun day!

My friend Belinda organized a fashion show as a fundraiser for Siloam mission. It was her first fashion show and it went really well! Got to shoot some low lighting situations there.

Besides that I had many homecooked meals at home in Carman or at family gatherings. Spent a lot of time with my parents and my brother and his family. I got to spend a lot of time with my new niece Harper who I just can't get enough of.

Isn't she the cutest???

Oh and I photographed my first wedding!! Gabrielle I know I said I'd blog the photos but I've barely sorted through them. I took way too many so its been a process to sort through. I learnt soooo much though! It was a great day and everything went really well. I'm super glad I had the opportunity to shoot a wedding. My new flash I got for christmas came in handy a lot and I kind of got the hang of bouncing it off walls and ceilings. I had a blast! Heres one quick photo!

WAG Field Trip. Yosuf Karsh

Yosuf Karsh image: Grey Owl

Archibald Belaney, or Grey Owl was writer and conservationist who moved to Canada from England when he was 17 years old. He dedicated much of his life to wildlife and forrest conservation as well as the preservation of native culture.

I chose this image because I was drawn to the dark moody feeling of the image. The shadow cast from his hat creates broody darken eyes and the light falling over his face accentuates the lines and texture of his face. I particularly like the line created from the brim of his hat, it causes my eye to move around his face. Also because it goes out of the frame my mind draws in the blanks created by the framing choices which I also really like. His face fills the frame well and the open space in the top right gives the image balance.

This image appears soft around the edges and where his hair is sitting on his shoulder. Which I'm not sure if it would of been done in camera or possibly in development. Also the open space appears quite bright which could of been due to pre flashing. He probably dodges the creases in his forehead and parts of the scarf. Possibly burning in the dark shadows under his chin and under the hat.

CI Color Block.

I love colors!
I think they're wonderful.
And I've really been loving learning about them and the reasons we use them and how each one can make us feel differently.
I used some cupcakes from the cupcakery cause well they had some nice colors and I looooove cupcakes. Felt a little sick after, but so worth it... I think the cupcakes gave the pictures a fun feel which was created not just by the colors but by the subject. I had bright fun colors but I felt the fun, happy feeling wasn't only because of the colors but the subject. The icing could of been dark blue, red or orange and I feel like I would of felt the same. But maybe thats just me.
I do think and believe that the color has a huge impact on the feeling and mood of the image but maybe my subject just over powered that idea. In other attempts to 'happen' upon color (the cigarette package in the grass) I think the color created an interesting image where it would of been drab and boring.
Anyways... each color does give a different feeling or emotional response. I used mostly bright tones which I felt were happy, fun and energetic. Other colors could of given completely different feelings.

CI Field Trip to the Zoo!

I was nooooot excited to go to the zoo. Mostly cause I'd already been there on Tuesday and it was rainy and cold today. But I ended up having a really good time. Its so different going with other people and I had a lot of fun taking pictures of our school friends and not just the animals. It added a totally different dynamic and I had a super good time. It was a nice relaxing way to end the week.

Link to my other pictures is here.
